AP02: Jaundice and the Neonate

This course is designed for the Lactation Consultant or nurse/midwife practitioner who cares for mothers and babies in the first few weeks postpartum. You will study normal bilirubin metabolism, noting how it is related to normal physiological and breastmilk jaundice and how this process can move from a normal, protective function to pathological jaundice. The practitioners’ role in preventing, or diagnosing and managing pathological jaundice will be examined with particular focus on the role of breastmilk and breastfeeding.
