Listen to this pod cast.  This is G105 morning radio show done on Friday Morning in response to Time magazine’s new cover and the host’s negative take on breastfeeding. 

This was just one of his many opinions that will fire up any advocate for breastfeeding.  There was a lactation consultant that called in to try to dispute him and to help change his opinion.

Study: Breast-feeding coincides with reduced childhood-obesity risk
An Irish study in Social Science and Medicine found that children who were breast-fed for three to six months were 38% less likely than their formula-fed counterparts to be obese at age 9, while those who were breast-fed for six months or more had a 51% lower risk of obesity. The Irish Times (Dublin)

Beginning Monday June 4, 2012 6:30pm EST to 8:00pm EST. Class will meet every Monday for 10 weeks: June 4, 11, 18, 25, July 2, 9, 16, 23, 30, August 6. 15 R Cerps will be awarded for your participation in this class.

The classes will be held online in a webinar format.

Each class will be 90 minutes in length, once a week for 10 weeks.   

There will be homework assignments, about 2 hours per week, which the student will be asked to complete between classes.  

The cost of the class series is $225.00 for members and $275.00 for non members. 15 R-CERPS will be awarded to participants upon completion of the course.

All class materials will be provided via the Internet. This class will be interactive with a very personable and experienced teacher.

The Women’s Health Branch of the NC Division of Public Health is  requesting abstracts for conference presentations that are applicable to exploring Emerging, Promising, Leading, or Best Practices to improve birth outcomes in North Carolina, which would include strategies provided prior to and following birth.

Presentations can be 30, 45, or 90 minutes and can be done by more than one presenter.  The conference planning committee is especially interested in presentations with patients, family members, or other individuals personally impacted by program activities as co-presenters.  We are looking for presentations that address one of the following practice areas:

    1.      Emerging (E): These practices are supported by field-based summaries or evaluations in progress that have plausible  effectiveness, reach, feasibility, sustainability, and
    transferability.
    2.      Promising (P): These practices are supported by intervention evaluations without peer review of practice or publication that have evidence of effectiveness, reach, feasibility, sustainability, and transferability.
    3.      Leading (L) or Effective: These practices are supported by  intervention evaluations or studies with peer review of practice that  have evidence of effectiveness, reach, feasibility, sustainability, and transferability.
    4.      Best (B), Proven, or Evidence-Based: These practices are supported by intervention evaluations or studies with rigorous systematic review that have evidence of effectiveness, reach,
    feasibility, sustainability, and transferability.
