Mark Your Calendars for Saturday, August 21st, 2010!
We have an opportunity to honor Mary Rose Tully and add to the funding for either The Mary Rose Tully Training Initiative (for graduate breastfeeding education in the UNC School of Public Health) or The Mary Rose Tully Education Fund (established for her 8 year old granddaughter Anika). You may specify which fund should receive the donation from your cruise purchase.
Diane Upton (one of the IBCLCs at WakeMed Hospital) and her husband Doug Springer (who is the Cape Fear River Master) own a company called Wilmington Water Tours (www.wilmingtonwatertours.com). They have a brand-new boat with incredibly varied seating possibilities. There is a roof the entire length of the boat, so those sensitive to the sun can feel comfortable; plus plenty of seating on both sides with room to move around easily during the cruise.
Let’s meet in Wilmington and enjoy the Cape Fear River from 11 to 1. Doug is a wonderful tour guide because he is very knowledgeable about the history and the environment of the Cape Fear River area. The cruise includes:
- Three hours on the water
- Buffet lunch – fish and chicken, salads, vegetables and desserts
- Beverages (They also have an ABC permit for the purchase of alcoholic drinks)
- Wide-screen TVs showing special scenic views of the river
Normally, the fee is $45 per person, but Diane and Doug are donating all but the $10 they have to pay the caterer to the Mary Rose Tully Scholarships Fund.
If we fill the boat, over $1,600 will go to the Fund!
Age 13 – Adult $45 ($35 of which goes to the MRT Scholarships Fund)
Age 4 – 12 years $10
Newborn – 3 years Free (We do need to count – every soul must have a life preserver)

If you cannot come on the cruise and would prefer to donate directly, you can write a check to “The Mary Rose Tully Education Fund”, specify which fund you wish it to go to (either “UNC Scholarship” or “Anika’s Education”) and mail it to:
