Call for Candidates: ILCA Board of Directors

The International Lactation Consultant Association announces the election process is beginning for one upcoming vacant position on the ILCA Board of Directors, and further announces that two existing Board positions are being renewed.

Director of Research and Special Projects. Karen Wambach completes her term as the ILCA Board Director of Research and Special Projects in July 2012, so this position is up for election in February 2012. The Nominations Committee, chaired by immediate past President Angela Smith, is actively seeking qualified candidates to run for this position.

The Director of Research and Special Projects for the ILCA Board serves as a liaison to the ILCA Research Committee, the Journal of Human Lactation, and the Accreditation and Approval Review Committee (AARC). The position is also responsible for implementing  other assigned special projects such as conducting surveys of the ILCA membership. Criteria include advanced skills and experience in research and education, along with written and verbal communication skills. Click here for a full job description for this position.

The Nominations Committee will accept applications for this post until January 15, 2012. To submit an application or nominate someone for this position, please contact Vicki Hobbs at info@ilca.org by no later than January 15, 2012. The application is available here.

After the Nominations Committee has done its job of reviewing applications to verify that candidates fulfill the requirements for Board leadership, they will present their slate of candidates to the full ILCA BOD for approval. The voting period (originally designed with international postal delays in mind) runs February-April 2011, although voting takes place primarily by electronic ballot now, through the Internet. Voting rights are conferred on ILCA members who are also International Board Certified Lactation Consultants (IBCLCs) (ILCA By-law 3.4). The newly-elected Director will be sworn in and commence the designated three-year term at the Annual General Meeting conducted in July 2012, at the annual conference to be held in Orlando, Florida, USA.

In addition to this election, two directorships are up for renewal in July 2012.

Director of Marketing. Decalie Brown was elected to her first three-year term in 2009. In accordance with ILCA By-law 6.4, she was invited by the ILCA Board of Directors in November 2011 to renew her post for a second three-year term, and she has accepted. Therefore, she will serve a second and final three-year term as the ILCA Director of Marketing.

Director of Membership and Affiliate Services. Roberta Graham de Escobedo was elected to her first three-year term in 2009 following a two-year appointed position vacated with the unexpired term by the predecessor (ILCA By-law 5.6). In accordance with ILCA By-law 6.4, she was invited by the ILCA Board of Directors in November 2011 to renew her post for a second three-year term, and she has accepted. Therefore, she will serve a second and final three-year term as the ILCA Director of Membership and Affiliate Services.
